If someone had told you back in Jan. of 2020 that we would be where we are today would you have believed them? Yea, probably not. But folks, ‘you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!’ The fabric of society is being ripped apart, the economy is teetering on the edge of collapse and despite what the talking heads are telling us, inflation is setting in. I was at my local Home Depot just yesterday and on the front door they had a list of commodities, such as PVC and copper pipe, that were limited to just so many per customer. Did I mention that a 4×8 sheet of plywood was nearly $70? The supply chain is failing to meet demand and that’s likely to get worse.
The cities are overwhelmed with so call ‘peaceful protesters’ and the Southern border is flooded with ‘migrants.’ Liberal cities are turning criminals loose with little or no bail while releasing hardened criminals early from prison due to COVID or some other nonsense excuse. The police are now completely unable to perform their duties without coming under constant attack so predictably thousands are leaving their jobs. Americans are scared and our Federal government is doing everything possible to keep it that way. Shut up and put your mask back on.
There are some among us who think everything will be just honky dory after 2021 or maybe 2022 and will continue to believe whatever the government or the media or Facebook tells them, but that’s what many thought about 2020. Heck, some of these social justice warriors think everything is going in the right direction and just keep those unemployment checks coming! Sadly, I believe things will get much, much worse before they get better. Fact, the safety and survival of you and your family is more dependent on you than ever before. Current conditions warrant more than just beans, bullets and band aides.
Fight or flight. You might be 6’5″ 300lbs or 5’2″ 90lbs; either way odds are you could be in better shape, I know I should be. One of my favorite bloggers The Armed Christian has been working a fitness regiment for this very reason so you might want to check out a few of his articles over there. I’ve been hitting the treadmill for 2 miles every morning then another mile before dinner, not great but after 10 weeks I definitely feel a difference. Diet of course is another big part of it and arguably even tougher to stick to than an exercise regiment. You don’t have to live on raw leafy greens, but downing a ‘Triple Baconator’ and fries at lunch probably isn’t the best choice.
Early warning. We recently installed a 4 camera security system which we quickly expanded to 8 cameras and added a couple more motion sensor lights. We live quite remote, but even so the sooner you can identify a potential threat the quicker you can respond to it. Installing a driveway alarm might be a good solution for you depending on where you live or maybe a commercially monitored system or even a dog; your needs will vary depending on your circumstance. The more time you have to respond the greater your chances of survival.
Avoidance. A word of advice, if they are burning and looting your local target, DON’T GO THERE! If BLM or Antifa or any of these other left wing terrorists have been setting fires downtown, don’t go downtown! Avoid areas of unrest as you would any other high crime area, use common sense. I lived most of my life in the Chicago area, but I didn’t just go walking around the projects for fun and exercise. Fact is, if you live in Chicago, Portland, Baltimore, Seattle or any major metropolitan area, getting the heck out of Dodge is probably your best bet in the long run.
Under the radar. There’s an old saying that goes something to the effect of ‘I don’t have to out run the bear, I just have to out run you!’ It may sound cruel, but facts are facts. Be the harder target, don’t do anything to attract attention to yourself, your family or your property. Be the grey man. Avoid the ‘We Don’t Call 911’ signs and such, do not advertise your political views, or anything else that might draw the attention of those who might do you harm. If you have a large stash of food and supplies, keep it to yourself! Watch the social media posts, if you wouldn’t want it on a billboard, don’t post it.
Awareness. ‘Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.’ Pay attention to what’s going on and take everything you hear with a grain of salt. People walk or drive right into life threatening situations all the time simply because they are totally unaware. Have your head on a swivel and be aware of your surroundings at all time; put the cell phone down! If your plan is to bugout, there may be a very limited time window to do so, you need to be aware. Do you have a escape plan? Do you have alternative travel routes? What if something happens while the kids are in school? And please don’t forget the basics; don’t spend so much time worrying about your bugout plan that you forget to change the batteries in the smoke detectors.
2021 to be continued…
