Gear Review: Keeper Magnetic Gun Mount

Recently I posted an article entitled ‘Can You Access Your Gun When You Need It?’ which asked the reader to run themselves through a series of scenarios to determine their ability to react to certain threats. The whole point to the article was to access when and where are you most vulnerable and what can you do to enhance your ability to react. As we ran through these ‘what ifs’ I couldn’t help but think of the Alfred Hitchcock movie Psycho where a young lady is slashed to death in the shower by motel manager Norman Bates. There is a reason this scene has scared people since 1960, naked in the shower is probably the most vulnerable part of your day. My wife kept joking about a ‘gun rack in the bathroom,’ and not that we would actually do that, but we wanted to do something. Our solution was the Keeper Magnetic Gun Mount. For just under $25 and 30 seconds to install this little guy was just what we needed.

Gun Control Fail

In the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting, the cries for more gun control are once again spewing from the mouths of activists and liberal politicians looking to cash in on the tragedy. This is not really surprising and certainly nothing new. Hillary Clinton quickly jumped in stating we need to put politics aside ‘and take on the NRA,’ apparently taking Rahm Emmanuel’s advice to ‘never let a crisis go to waste.’ The left for some reason insists on the US adopting policies that have failed in other countries like the UK’s universal healthcare, Spain’s green energy, and yes, gun control. Australia’s massive gun grab has failed, and Mexico’s very restrictive gun laws certainly haven’t led the Cartels to turn in their guns, but rather left the citizens defenseless against them. If history has taught us anything, it’s that it’s much more difficult to oppress an armed populace. Gun control is not about making society safer, it’s about control. Maybe you think the Government doesn’t have enough control over you, I happen to think it is way too bloated, controlling and overbearing.  I heard it said recently that an armed people will not load themselves in boxcars, I have to believe that to be true.

Lessons from the Antioch TN Church Shooting

On Sunday Sept. 24th, 2017 Emanuel Kidega Samson, a 25-year-old black immigrant from Sudan,  pulled into the parking lot of Burnette Chapel Church of Christ and immediately shot a woman dead as she left the church. Samson, wearing a ski mask and carrying two pistols then proceeded into the church and opened fire. A young 22-year-old usher named Robert ‘Caleb’ Engle confronted the gunman, but suffered ‘significant head injuries’ when the gunman pistol whipped him then continued on to shoot others. Some details are still unclear, but it’s believed that the perpetrator accidentally shot himself in the face during the confrontation with Engle. Engle then went to his car to retrieve his Continue reading “Lessons from the Antioch TN Church Shooting”

Can You Access Your Gun When You Actually Need It?

A firearm is just a tool, and like any tool, it’s useless unless you can get to it when you need it. I’m sure many of you have felt that frustration of knowing you have a tool but just can’t find it; can you imagine the frustration of being unable to access your firearm in a crisis situation? Are your firearms safe from children or nosy neighbors while also being accessible?

Practicing your preps is undoubtedly the best why to stay sharp and practicing intrusion prevention/self-defense is no different. So try running through a few scenarios and in each one ask yourself: how would I or could I respond? What could I change to improve my level of preparedness?

  • You’re in the middle of dinner when 2 individuals attempt to kick in your door.
  • You’re relaxing in front of the TV when you hear a noise in the back yard.
  • You pull in your driveway and notice that your front door appears broken.
  • You’re lying in bed when you hear a suspicious noise coming from the kitchen.
  • You’re walking your dog when a suspicious person approaches you.
  • You’re fueling up your vehicle when you realize the gas station is being robbed.
  • You’re shopping with your family when a flash mob begins ransacking the store.
  • You’re in the shower (home alone) when you hear someone in the house.
  • You’re broke down on the side of the road when some rough characters stop to ‘help?’
  • You answer a knock at the door and the person tries to force their way in.

The possibilities are endless, but as you run through each scenario, ask yourself am I prepared or could I be better prepared? What could I do to improve my chances of survival? Can I stage my firearms better while still keeping them safe from others? I think most will find that if they actually follow through on this exercise they will make at least some changes and probably order a couple of small gun safes. Police are reactionary and can only do so much, it’s your job to protect yourself, your family and your property from those who would do them harm.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Can You Have Too Many Guns?

Well of course not! Guns and Preppers go together like peanut butter and chocolate, or maybe beans and rice would be more appropriate, but I digress. Guns, yes, lots of guns; and I include myself in this fold as I have accumulated quite a few over the last couple of years and each with their own purpose. The problem we run into is which caliber or calibers of ammunition do you stockpile? Note: I recently purchased a little Ruger LCP2 .380 to carry on the trails when hiking, great little gun that fits the need, but certainly not the caliber I would choose to stockpile. No, unless you have an endless supply of money to spend on ammo, you must somehow narrow your focus down to just a couple of calibers. Now, if you want to create a firestorm of opinions, just ask what gun or guns would be best for a SHTF scenario – you will likely get 100 different opinions none of which might be appropriate for you. I have recently been faced with this dilemma and I wanted to take a few moments to share how we came to our decision and why (and yes yours will probably be different). Flashback: Leftists Call For Harassment of Conservatives Everywhere – Including in Their Own Homes

Following the attempted assassination of several House Republicans I thought you might find this previous post relevant.

The left has a long history of violence, and that violence is escalating on a daily basis. The ‘open-minded’ are so enraged that not everyone thinks like they do that they are once again resorting to violence.  Recently a writer for the ever anti-American Huffington Post spewed out an article (under the header of Queer Voices) entitled ‘To Save America We Must Stop Being Polite And  Immediately Start Raising Hell’ in which he called for the escalation of “our outrage and our anger is a massive way.” He called for the harassment of conservatives everywhere including in their own homes while out of the other side of his mouth claiming that he is not calling for violence like the ‘thuggish behavior of the Trump supporters.’ Wink Wink Nudge Nudge

Left wing protesters

While I certainly support the right of all Americans to participate in peaceful protest, what we are seeing as of late is anything but peaceful. Burning police cars and smashing windows is NOT civil discourse. Let me ask you this, when have you seen conservatives throwing rocks and bottles at the police? When have you seen conservatives physically attack someone because they hold a different point of view? Reminder: it was Barack Obama who said “if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” For once I actually agree with Mr. Obama; bring a gun. I am in no way encouraging anyone to go looking for a fight, but I do strongly suggest that you be very aware of your surroundings and prepared to defend yourself and your family should the need arise. Lib Blogger Says It Should Be Illegal to Defend Yourself: Reblogged from ‘The Pesky Truth’

There’s stupid and then there’s that special level of stupid, where guys like Justin Curmi can be found. He is a blogger at the Huffington Post who wrote a piece explaining why we shouldn’t kill perpetrators in self defense. Here are some excerpts from his piece: “The main problem with the notion of self-defense is it imposes […]
